The feelings of being constantly stressed out and overwhelmed can be hard to deal with. While stress is a natural part of life that makes life exciting, too much stress can easily cause the body to break down.

In today's modern world, between answering urgent emails, being bombarded by the news, and a hundred other things, finding peace and tranquility can sometimes feel like a huge undertaking.

This usually results in most of us feeling more stressed, developing anxiety disorders, and disconnecting from ourselves.

However, there are several steps one can take to get back in tune with oneself. This includes using different herbs which enhance general well-being and foster peace and calmness, lemon balm and Ashwagandha.

Natural herbs are great for helping center you and aid in healing and protecting the body from free radicals. In this article, we will cover five herbs that can help you decompress after a long day, helping you achieve peace and mindfulness, whether morning or night.

1. Kratom

Kratom, also known as Mitragyna speciosa, is a tropical tree from Southeast Asia. The leaves of this plant contain compounds called alkaloids, which have powerful effects on the brain and body. Red Bali kratom is one of the most popular varieties in the world — its unique properties make it great for calming anxiety and relieving stress.

Kratom has powerful analgesic effects, reducing pain and discomfort throughout the body. It can be used to treat chronic pain such as arthritis or fibromyalgia. Additionally, it helps to uplift your mood by increasing serotonin levels in the brain and giving you an overall sense of well-being.

When taken in low doses, many users describe feeling more relaxed mentally and physically.

Red Bali kratom can also be used to help with insomnia or sleep deprivation. As its effects are calming, it promotes relaxation and helps you fall asleep more quickly while also improving your quality of sleep.

2. St John's Wort

Named after John The Baptist, St. John's Wort is another popular herb known to offer a plethora of benefits, such as:

  • Relief from menopausal signs such as hot flashes

  • Aiding in wound healing when applied topically

  • Management of nerve pain when the lotion is applied topically

  • Treating insomnia when taken before bed

Some of the active compounds found in St John's wort help to promote serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine levels. This makes achieving mindfulness in your day's activities easier as you're more likely to be aware of your surroundings.

Additionally, some anecdotal research suggests St John's wort may reduce the symptoms of depression in individuals with mild to severe depression.

You can consume St John wort in various ways, depending on your preference. These include brewing and drinking it as a tea, ingesting it through tinctures, applying it as a topical treatment, or orally ingesting it through capsule form.

3. Tulsi (Holy Basil)

Another great herb that can be added to your cavalry is holy basil. A herb heavily revered in India, Tulsi offers many benefits, such as naturally boosting your immunity, helping to protect against infection, helping to reduce stress and anxiety, and helping to stimulate and vitalize the body.

In addition, Tulsi is high in vitamins A and C, iron, chlorophyll, Zinc, and Calcium. All these properties make it perfect for helping attain peace and mindfulness in daily life without much effort. You can brew the leaves, drink the tea, or take it in pill/capsule form.

4. Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)

Passionflower is the third herb that can be used to attain peace and encourage mindfulness. Belonging to the Passiflora family, of which there are over 500 known species, the passion flower has been used to treat a variety of conditions, such as nerve pain, insomnia, boils, liver problems, and nervous exhaustion.

While these days, it's used to treat anxiety and insomnia, this wonder plant is full of glycosides, flavonoids, and alkaloids, making them excellent at reducing oxidative stress in the body and inflammation.

Passionflower can also be beneficial in reducing anxiety, inducing sleep in people with insomnia, reducing inflammation, and defending the body from damage caused by free radicals. Although brewing it as a tea is the most common way to consume passionflower, you can also consume it in tinctures and supplement form.

5. Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica)

Gotu Kola has been used to treat conditions in various parts of Asia for many years. Not only was it used to heal wounds, treat skin conditions such as leprosy, and improve mental clarity, but certain people would use it to fight respiratory infections such as colds.

Characteristics of Gotu Kola

  • It has no smell or taste

  • The leaves are small and fan-shaped with flowers that are white or light purple to pink flowers

  • The leaves are the parts used in medicine

Gotu Kola may help reduce anxiety symptoms thanks to Triterpenoids chemicals. In addition, Gotu Kola may be beneficial in treating insomnia, boosting cognitive function, improving circulation and reducing swelling, and easing insomnia.

The dosage for Goku Kola will depend on the type and what you use it for. Always talk to a doctor to help you choose the correct dosage.

Final Thoughts

Mother nature has provided a concoction of herbs that work incredibly well at regulating the body and helping to achieve peace and mindfulness. While the above are just a few examples, there are lots to discover.

However, before starting any ayurvedic journey, you must consult a doctor, especially if you're on medication for an underlying medical condition.
